IAEA Launches Project to Optimize Nuclear Fuel and Material Testing in Research Reactors
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has initiated a coordinated research project titled "Optimising the Design of Experiments for Fuels and Materials Testing in Research Reactors." This project aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of experiments conducted in research reactors globally, particularly those focused on nuclear fuels and materials. The initiative comes amidst a growing demand for advanced nuclear systems, fusion energy, and next-generation reactor technologies, which necessitate more sophisticated testing and qualification procedures. Currently, there are 228 operational research reactors worldwide, with 65 actively involved in fuel and materials testing, and at least 14 more under construction or planned.
