Civil Service Chief Declares AI as Key Opportunity and Challenge for Government
Dame Antonia Romeo, the head of the UK civil service, has declared artificial intelligence as both the defining opportunity and challenge of the current generation. In a blog post, she emphasized the transformative potential of AI in government operations, highlighting its role in improving efficiency and freeing up human resources for complex decision-making. Romeo announced plans to enhance AI adoption across government departments, including the development of in-house AI engineering teams and new training programs. Additionally, she introduced the Cabinet Secretary’s AI Innovation Award to recognize innovative uses of AI within the civil service.
