Toxic Airborne Chemical MCCPs Detected in U.S. for First Time
Researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder have detected Medium Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (MCCPs) in the air in Oklahoma, marking the first such discovery in the U.S. MCCPs are industrial chemicals used as flame retardants and plasticizers, often found in wastewater and biosolid fertilizers. The study, published in ACS Environmental Au Journal, involved continuous air monitoring using a nitrate chemical ionization mass spectrometer. The detection of MCCPs, which share properties with regulated Short Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (SCCPs), raises concerns about their environmental persistence and potential health risks.
