French President Macron Addresses Wildfires as Thousands Evacuated in France and Spain
French President Emmanuel Macron has convened an emergency meeting with his government in response to massive wildfires raging across France and Spain. The fires have led to the evacuation of over 326,000 residents and tourists, with the Gironde region in southwestern France being particularly affected. The blaze, which has burned 42,000 hectares, is now only 15 kilometers from Bordeaux, a major city and wine capital. In Spain, the largest wildfire in the country's history has burned 50,000 hectares near Madrid, prompting evacuations in the Valencia region. Scientists attribute the increasing frequency and intensity of such extreme weather events to climate change, driven by greenhouse gas emissions.
