Rutgers University Study Finds Time-Restricted Eating May Benefit Cognitive Health in Older Women
A recent study conducted by Rutgers University suggests that limiting food intake to an 8-9 hour window each day may offer cognitive benefits for older women, beyond those associated with weight loss. The study involved women aged 50 to 79 with overweight or obesity, who participated in a six-month weight loss program. Participants who restricted their eating to a shorter daily window showed greater improvement in cognitive tests compared to those who ate over a 12-hour period. The research was presented at the NUTRITION 2026 meeting by Sue Shapses, PhD, RD, DFASN, the study's Principal Investigator.
