This film, produced by Pearl Studio and CMC Pictures, reimagines the Eight Immortals of Chinese mythology as a group of mortals planning to rob the gods. It has become a major hit in China, surpassing Stephen Chow's 'Kung Fu Soccer' to claim the top spot. The film's success is part of a broader trend in China where animated films are becoming central to the country's theatrical business. In 2025, animated films accounted for nearly half of China's box office revenue, with 'Ne Zha 2' leading the way as a $2.2 billion phenomenon. Other successful animated films include Shanghai Animation Film Studio's 'Nobody' and 'Zootopia 2', which became China's highest-grossing imported animated feature.
