Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo Commends Upholding of Kalshi Ban, Safeguarding Gaming Industry
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has publicly praised the decision by federal judges to uphold the ban on Kalshi, a 'prediction market' platform, from operating within Nevada. This ruling marks another legal setback for Kalshi, which launched in 2021 and offers event-based contracts, often used for sports betting in states where traditional sports wagering is illegal. Nevada, with its long-standing legal sports wagering industry, views Kalshi as a potential threat to its established institutions. The initial temporary ban was issued by a Carson City judge in March. Federal Judge Ryan Nelson, in his decision, stated his belief that it is disingenuous for Kalshi to claim its sports-event contracts are not sports bets.
