Heavy Rains and Flood Alerts Across the Southern U.S.
The southern United States is experiencing significant rainfall following a wet Memorial Day weekend. According to NBC News, approximately 15 million people are under flood alerts from Louisiana to Georgia as heavy rains and thunderstorms continue to impact the region. Areas from the Carolinas to western Texas are also forecast to experience excessive rainfall, with potential for large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes in parts of southwest Texas, including Midland and Fort Stockton. Flood watches are in effect for New Orleans and Atlanta, with rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour possible in some areas. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has already seen significant flooding, with cars stranded in several inches of water. Additional precipitation is expected throughout the week, though specific amounts remain uncertain.
