FDA Classifies Italian Ice Cream Recall Due to Undeclared Soy Allergens
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class II recall for several gelato products distributed by Zarlengo Italian Ice due to undeclared soy allergens. The recall affects three varieties of gelato, including Chocolate Gelato, Chocolate Chocolate Chip Gelato, and Double Dark Chocolate Gelato, packaged in various sizes. Over 2,200 containers across different product lots are included in the recall. The products were distributed in Illinois, Indiana, and Texas. The recall was initiated voluntarily by Zarlengo Italian Ice after identifying the labeling issue, with soy lecithin listed in the ingredients but not declared in the 'Contains' statement, a requirement under federal food safety laws.
