Avalanche in Pakistan Claims Lives of International Climbers, Including American Mallory Geis
An avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan has resulted in the deaths of renowned climber Nirmal Purja and nine other members of an international mountaineering expedition. Among the deceased is Mallory Geis, a 39-year-old American climber from San Antonio, Texas. Geis had recently closed her Pilates studio to pursue high-altitude climbing. The expedition included climbers from various countries, including Oman, Nepal, Pakistan, China, and the United States. Despite rescue efforts involving military helicopters and high-altitude porters, the challenging terrain and weather conditions hampered the search. The remains of some climbers have been transported to hospitals in Pakistan.
