Storm Dave Causes Damage and Delays at Durham's Riverside Ground
Storm Dave has impacted Durham's Riverside ground at Chester-le-Street, causing significant damage and disrupting the County Championship Division Two match between Durham and Kent. The storm brought gusts of up to 70 mph, which overturned scaffolding holding a sightscreen and blew a wheeled cover into the stands, resulting in water on the pitch. As a result, the third day's play was called off without a ball being bowled. Spectators were advised to stay away initially, but were allowed entry after 13:00 BST, although no play was possible due to the wet conditions. The storm has also caused widespread disruption to road and rail travel in northern areas, with numerous flood warnings issued. Conditions are expected to improve as the day progresses.
