Partial Solar Eclipse to Grace U.S. Skies in August 2026
On August 12, 2026, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in parts of the United States, while mainland Europe will experience totality. The eclipse will occur as the moon's shadow sweeps across Greenland, Iceland, and parts of Europe. In the U.S., 26 states and Washington, D.C., will witness a partial eclipse, with Alaska and northern states seeing larger portions of the sun obscured. The event will begin at 7:34 a.m. Alaska Standard Time and end at 2:52 p.m. ET on the East Coast. NASA plans to broadcast the eclipse live, providing telescope views and commentary from scientists.
