Times Free Press Relocates to New Downtown Chattanooga Office, Ending Decades at Historic Site
The Chattanooga Times Free Press has moved its entire operations, including executives, newsroom staff, advertising, and circulation departments, to a new state-of-the-art office in downtown Chattanooga. This relocation marks the first time since the merger of Chattanooga's two daily newspapers in January 1999 that the company has changed its physical location. The previous four-story building at 400 E. 11th St. had been home to the News-Free Press since 1966, when former owner Roy McDonald converted a hosiery mill into its offices. The move, which occurred recently, has generated excitement among staff, replacing the familiar scent of printing presses with fresh paint and new carpet. The transition also prompted reflection on the newspaper's long history and the personal connections staff members formed within the old building.
