Tulsa Air Space Museum to Acquire Former Thunderbird F-16 Jet with Congressional Support
The Tulsa Air & Space Museum (TASM) is set to acquire an F-16C Fighting Falcon, specifically Serial No. 86-0281, which previously served with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. This aircraft will become a permanent exhibit, highlighting Oklahoma’s aviation and military history. The acquisition process, including preparation, transportation, and installation, is expected to take three to six months. The F-16 began its Thunderbird service after being transferred from the Arkansas Air National Guard and converted into the team's distinctive red, white, and blue configuration in 2004. It held various roles, including serving as Thunderbird No. 1 during the 2006 season. Once installed, the aircraft will be prominently displayed near the museum's entrance, allowing visitors to view it up close and learn about its role in representing the Air Force at public demonstrations nationwide.
