New Jersey Voters Show Strong Support for AI Data Center Bans Amid Rising Concerns
A recent poll conducted by the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University reveals that a majority of New Jersey voters support banning artificial intelligence data centers in their communities. The poll indicates that nearly three-quarters of voters believe AI will eliminate more jobs than it creates, with only 7% thinking it will create more jobs. The poll comes as residents in Vineland oppose a proposed 2.6 million-square-foot data center, which would require significant power generation and potentially impact local resources. The project, developed by DataOne with Netherlands-based Nebius as the operating tenant, aims to supply AI infrastructure to Microsoft. Concerns have been raised about the environmental impact, including increased electricity costs and potential harm to the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer.
