Red Hook Coalition Seeks Signatures to Challenge Sewer Bond Resolution
A coalition in Red Hook is gathering signatures to challenge a bond resolution intended to finance a sewer expansion project. The Saw Kill Tributary Coalition has collected about half of the required signatures to force a public vote on the issue. The coalition needs signatures from 20% of the village's registered voters, totaling 274 people, by August 7. The bond resolution, passed by the Village Board, would allow for a $28 million expansion, including a septage receiving station. The coalition opposes this station due to concerns about odors and environmental impacts. The village argues that the station could save costs by processing sludge locally.
