Walmart's Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter Receives FDA's Highest Risk Classification for Salmonella
Walmart's Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter has been reclassified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to a Class I recall, its highest risk level, due to potential salmonella contamination. This upgrade occurred on August 26, following an initial voluntary recall on August 3. A Class I classification signifies that there is a reasonable probability that consuming the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death. The contamination was first identified on July 17 during a routine inspection by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which found salmonella in three jars of the nut butter. Botticelli Foods, the manufacturer, then voluntarily recalled 16,200 jars distributed exclusively to Walmart stores in 19 states. The affected product is sold in 6.7-ounce glass jars with UPC code 194346207961, lot code LB028ACP04, and an expiration date of January 28, 2027.
