Austin Music Venues Elysium and 13th Floor Property Listed for Sale, Valhalla Forced to Vacate
The property housing two iconic Austin music venues, Elysium and 13th Floor, located at 701-713 Red River, has been listed for sale for the first time in 80 years, with an asking price of $4.1 million for the dual parcels. Elysium, a multi-Best of Austin winner known for its goth, industrial, and Eighties-inspired dance floor, was opened by John Wickham in 2001. The 13th Floor, a psych-rock venue named after the 13th Floor Elevators, has been at 711 Red River since 2022, having previously operated on East 12th since 2018. J.B. Branton Jr., who inherited the building in 1992, stated his decision to sell is due to his age and desire to give someone else the opportunity, expressing hope that the space will remain music-centered. This development follows another recent change in the area, where Gus’s Fried Chicken purchased the property across Red River at 710 Red River, which has been home to the music venue Valhalla since 2010.
