Miami Appoints Edwin Lopez as New Police Chief Following Morales' Retirement
Miami officials have announced the appointment of Edwin Lopez as the city's next police chief, succeeding Manuel 'Manny' Morales, who is set to retire in October. Lopez, who has a 28-year career in law enforcement, currently serves as the chief of the Doral Police Department. His appointment was praised by Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins and City Manager James Reyes, who highlighted his leadership and commitment to community policing. Lopez's experience includes leading the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department and the Doral Police Department. He is expected to bring a collaborative leadership style to Miami, a city with over 1,100 sworn officers and a population nearing 500,000.
