Hyde Park Student Killed in Dolton Hit-and-Run, Community Seeks Justice
An 18-year-old student from Hyde Park Academy High School, Lania Smith, was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Dolton, Illinois. The accident occurred at the intersection of Sibley Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The vehicle involved is believed to be a 2007 red Chevrolet Corvette, which has not yet been located by police. The community is rallying to support Smith's family, with a GoFundMe campaign raising funds for her memorial services. Smith was described as a vibrant and energetic individual, looking forward to her high school graduation and pursuing a career in nursing. The incident follows a similar tragedy in March, where another student from the same school was killed in a hit-and-run.
