Severe Weather and Tornado Risk Looms for Chicago Area Midweek
The Chicago area is currently experiencing calm weather, but a potential severe weather event is forecast for midweek. According to the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), parts of eastern Illinois, including southeastern Cook County, southern Will County, and all of Kankakee County, are under a 'slight' risk for severe weather. Northern Indiana is also included in this risk zone. Other areas, such as Lake, Kane, DuPage, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, and Will counties, face a 'marginal' risk. The forecast highlights a non-zero chance of tornadoes, particularly east of Interstate 57 and into northern Indiana. Damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, hail, and supercell storms are also possible. The severe weather threat is expected to peak on Wednesday afternoon as a cold front interacts with elevated dew points.
