Alabama Lawmakers Push for USPS Accountability with New Bill
U.S. Representative Dale Strong, along with the entire Alabama congressional delegation, has introduced the Postal Executive Responsibility, Fiscal Oversight, and Results-based Management (PERFORM) Act. This legislation aims to prohibit performance-based bonuses for the U.S. Postmaster General in years when the Postal Service fails to meet delivery standards or financial benchmarks. The bill is a response to the Postal Service's reported $25 billion in net losses over the past three fiscal years, including a $9 billion loss in fiscal year 2025. The legislation is co-sponsored by several Alabama representatives, including Robert Aderholt, who emphasized the historical significance of the Postal Service and its current shortcomings. The bill seeks to ensure that bonuses are only awarded when the Postal Service meets its performance targets, thereby holding leadership accountable for financial and service standards.
