Roblox Implements Age Checks Amid Child Safety Concerns
Roblox has introduced mandatory facial verification for access to chats on its platform, with 45% of its daily active users having undergone age checks as of January 31. This move comes in response to lawsuits from the attorneys general of Texas, Kentucky, and Louisiana over child safety concerns. The age-check process involves users allowing access to their camera for facial verification, processed by a third-party vendor, Persona. Roblox deletes any images or videos post-verification. The platform categorizes users into six age groups, allowing communication within adjacent groups. Concerns have been raised about potential loopholes, such as the sale of age-verified accounts on eBay, which have since been removed.
