Fox Fire Forces Evacuations and Closes Major Oregon Interstate
The Fox Fire in eastern Oregon has forced the closure of a 70-mile stretch of Interstate 84 between Baker City and Ontario, near the Idaho state line. The fire, fueled by hot, dry, and windy conditions, has burned nearly 72 square miles (186 square kilometers) and remains 0% contained as of Monday. The small town of Huntington, located 12 miles from the fire, is under a Level 3 'Go Now' evacuation order, with approximately 500 residents evacuated. The fire came within 250 feet (76 meters) of homes in Huntington before firefighters managed to contain that portion of the blaze. Smoke has significantly reduced visibility, complicating firefighting efforts. (Source: AP News, Source time: Mon, 27 Jul 2026 19:46:08 GMT)
