SADC Promotes Responsible Mining for Regional Industrialisation
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is focusing on responsible mining as a key driver for industrialisation and economic diversification in the region. During the 9th SADC Industrialisation Week in Durban, South Africa, the importance of responsible mineral extraction was highlighted. The event, supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), is part of a five-year project led by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) to promote sustainable mining practices across six SADC countries. The project aims to develop ESG-compliant mining policies and improve environmental and climate monitoring practices. It also seeks to ensure participation and benefit-sharing for local mining communities.
