NYCHA Partners with Brooklyn Public Library and National Book Foundation for Summer Reading Program
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), in collaboration with the Brooklyn Public Library and the National Book Foundation, has launched the Book Rich Environments (BRE) program to promote reading among children in public housing. This initiative provides free books to children visiting select Brooklyn pools during the summer. Events were held at Betsy Head Pool, Commodore Barry Pool, and Bushwick Playground and Pool, offering a variety of free books in both English and Spanish, including picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels for various age groups. NYCHA Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt emphasized the importance of every child having the opportunity to discover the joy of reading. The program aims to connect children with reading-related resources, fostering a lifelong love for reading.
