Obama Presidential Center Prepares to Open, Showcasing Legacy and National History
The Obama Presidential Center is set to open later this month on the South Side of Chicago. Unlike traditional presidential libraries, this center is designed as a campus featuring basketball courts, gardens, ball fields, a playground, a Chicago public library branch, and an eight-story museum. The museum's exhibits aim to tell the story of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, as well as the broader narrative of the United States, beginning with the Declaration of Independence. Valerie Jarrett, CEO of the Obama Foundation, emphasized that the center highlights the historical movements and ordinary people who contributed to the changes leading to Obama's presidency. The museum includes artifacts from Obama's life and presidency, such as his Nobel Peace Prize and a replica of the Oval Office. Notably absent is Obama's tan suit, which became a humorous symbol among his supporters.
