Honolulu Commemorates 81st Anniversary of Hiroshima Bombing with Peace Ceremony
On August 6, 2026, Honolulu observed the 81st anniversary of the Hiroshima atomic bombing with a peace ceremony. The event featured the ringing of a replica of the Hiroshima Peace Bell, a gift from the Hiroshima Prefectural Government to Hawaii in 1985. The ceremony included a Shinto purification ritual led by Bishop Daiya Amano and speeches by Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi, Consul General Chotoku Hideaki, and others. The event aimed to honor the victims of the 1945 bombing and promote peace between the U.S. and Japan. Attendees were invited to ring the bell in support of world peace, reflecting on the historical tragedy and the ongoing commitment to peace and reconciliation.
