Latvia Investigates Drone Incursion from Russia, Raises Security Concerns
Latvia is currently investigating an incident involving two drones that entered its airspace from Russian territory and crashed near an empty oil storage facility in the eastern part of the country. The incident resulted in minor damage to four empty oil tanks, with some smouldering reported. The Latvian Prime Minister, Evika Siliņa, has convened a crisis management meeting and is in constant communication with relevant ministers and state institutions. The investigation is in its early stages, but there is speculation that the drones might have been Ukrainian units that lost their way due to signal jamming. This is not the first occurrence of such incidents, as similar events have been reported in Estonia and Lithuania. The Latvian army has stated that as long as Russia's aggression in Ukraine continues, the recurrence of such incidents is possible.
