China's AI-Driven Export Surge to U.S. Marks Five-Year High Amid Global Tensions
China's exports to the United States experienced a significant increase in May 2026, marking the highest growth in five years. This surge, driven by AI-related technology exports, comes amidst global disruptions such as the ongoing Iran war. According to customs data, China's overall exports rose by 19.4% from the previous year, with U.S.-bound shipments increasing by 35.4%. The demand for green exports, including electric vehicles and solar products, has been a key factor in this growth. Despite the increase in exports, China's import growth has also accelerated, driven by higher input costs, particularly in semiconductor chips and gold.
