Dubai VARA Implements Regulatory Framework for Virtual Asset Derivatives
The Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) has introduced a new regulatory framework for the trading of Exchange Traded Derivatives (ETD) in virtual assets. This framework, detailed in Version 2.1 of VARA’s Exchange Services Rulebook, positions Dubai as one of the first jurisdictions globally to regulate virtual asset derivatives comprehensively. The rules are effective immediately and apply to all Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) licensed by VARA. The framework aims to address the growing demand for derivatives in virtual asset markets and includes strict compliance requirements across five key areas: client suitability, margin controls, asset segregation, enhanced disclosures, and regulatory intervention powers.
