Austin Mayor Kirk Watson Raises Concerns Over Nonprofit Contract Performance

The audit, reviewed during the city's Audit and Finance Committee meeting, highlighted that some contracts delivered services substantially below the required standards. The city spent nearly $100 million on social services in fiscal year 2025, and the audit aims to ensure these funds effectively serve vulnerable Austinites. The audit recommended that city departments evaluate and document the performance of nonprofit contractors and grant recipients. Mayor Watson emphasized the importance of these services in supporting the city's most vulnerable populations.
