Israel's Covert Military Base in Iraq Revealed Amid Iran Conflict
A report has disclosed the existence of a second Israeli covert military base in western Iraq, which was operational during the Iran conflict. The New York Times, citing Iraqi and regional officials, revealed that the base was discovered after a Bedouin shepherd, Awad al-Shammari, stumbled upon it and was subsequently killed. The base, along with another previously known site, was used for air support and medical evacuations during Israel's 12-day war with Iran in June 2025. Iraqi authorities were unaware of the base until the shepherd's report, which led to a reconnaissance mission that resulted in casualties. The report suggests that U.S. forces were likely aware of these installations, given the close military coordination between the U.S. and Israel.
