Drug-Resistant Fungus Candida Auris Spreads Across 23 U.S. States
The drug-resistant fungus Candida auris has been identified in 23 states, including Wisconsin, where it has caused over 100 cases since its first detection in 2022. This fungus is particularly dangerous in healthcare settings, affecting individuals with weakened immune systems. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that Texas, Michigan, and Illinois have the highest number of cases. The fungus spreads through contact and can survive on surfaces for extended periods, making it challenging to control.
