CVF Bloc Surpasses U.S. in Solar Adoption Amidst Electrotech Transition
The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), a coalition of countries vulnerable to climate change, is leading in solar adoption and electrification, surpassing the United States in these areas. According to a report by Ember and the CVF-V20, 46% of CVF nations have overtaken the U.S. in solar penetration, and 51% have surpassed it in economy-wide electrification. The report highlights that in eight out of ten CVF countries, solar imports since 2017 are at least three times higher than officially recorded installed capacity. This surge is attributed to the declining costs of solar power and electric technologies, which now require less upfront capital compared to fossil fuel plants. The report also notes significant electric vehicle uptake in countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka.
