Salt Lake City High-Rise Project Near Historic Church Canceled Amid Community Opposition
A proposed high-rise development in Salt Lake City, planned for 265 E. 100 South, has been canceled after facing significant community opposition and a sale of the property. The project, which aimed to redevelop an existing office building into a 421-unit mixed-use high-rise with commercial space and affordable housing units, had received a positive recommendation from the Salt Lake City Planning Commission. However, it encountered strong resistance during a Salt Lake City Council meeting in January and a public hearing in February. Residents raised concerns about the project's height, its potential seismic impact on the adjacent historic St. Mark's Cathedral, and its effect on the church's solar panels. The property has since been acquired by APWireless Infrastructure Partners, a telecommunications and digital infrastructure company, and the project's rezone request was officially closed by Salt Lake City.
