Southern California Braces for Hottest Week of 2026
Southern California is set to experience its hottest week of the year, with temperatures expected to soar between 100°F and 110°F (37.8°C to 43.3°C) in areas five to ten miles inland from the coast. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heat wave will intensify from Tuesday through Friday, with downtown Los Angeles potentially reaching highs of 100°F (37.8°C) or more. Coastal areas, typically cooler, may see temperatures between 80°F and 90°F (26.7°C to 32.2°C). Death Valley, known for its extreme heat, is forecast to hit highs of 119°F to 121°F (48.3°C to 49.4°C). The NWS has issued a heat advisory for downtown Los Angeles through Tuesday morning, with an extreme heat watch in effect from Tuesday morning through Friday evening.
