Fugitive Khalid Satary Apprehended in Middle East in Alleged $547 Million Medicare Fraud Case
Khalid Satary, a fugitive on the FBI's Most Wanted Fraudsters List, was captured in the Middle East after allegedly orchestrating a scheme to defraud Medicare of over $547 million. Satary was indicted in 2019 for billing Medicare for expensive and unnecessary genetic tests between 2016 and 2019. He conspired with patient recruiters, telemarketing call centers, and telemedicine companies to create deceptive marketing campaigns and pay illegal kickbacks and bribes. Satary faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit health care fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering.
