President Trump Seeks to Halt Financial Disclosure in $10 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against BBC
President Donald Trump is attempting to prevent the disclosure of his financial documents in a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The lawsuit, filed in Miami federal court, stems from a BBC documentary that aired an edited portion of a speech by Trump before the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Trump claims the documentary was intended to influence the 2024 presidential election against him. U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett ordered Trump's attorneys to provide financial information from the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, which includes at least 400 business entities. Trump's legal team argues that the BBC's discovery requests are overly broad and politically motivated. The BBC has requested the court to dismiss the lawsuit, citing that Trump did not suffer any injury as he won the election.
