Icelandair Cancels Flights to Seattle and Copenhagen Due to Crew Shortages
Icelandair has canceled two international flights to Seattle and Copenhagen this week due to crew shortages. The airline was unable to secure enough staff to operate these flights after unexpected absences among crew members. Typically, Icelandair relies on standby staff to cover such last-minute issues, but in this instance, no standby crew were available. Efforts to contact off-duty pilots to fill in were also unsuccessful. Bogi Nils Bogason, the chief executive of Icelandair, noted that such cancellations are uncommon and emphasized the airline's commitment to minimizing future disruptions. Jón Þór Þorvaldsson, chairman of the Icelandic Airline Pilots’ Association, clarified that these cancellations were not related to any strike action or ongoing wage negotiations between the union and the airline.
