Wisconsin Legislature Enacts Workforce Home Loan Program to Address Housing Affordability
The Wisconsin Legislature has passed Assembly Bill 454, establishing a workforce home loan program aimed at making homeownership more accessible for working families. The program, administered by the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, offers zero-interest financing to help families purchase homes near their workplaces. This initiative is a collaborative effort involving Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity and other Habitat affiliates across Wisconsin. The bill seeks to alleviate the housing affordability gap, where one in five households in Wisconsin is cost-burdened, spending over 30% of their income on housing. The program is expected to save eligible homebuyers up to $270 per month, thereby promoting stability and generational wealth.
