Alpheus Medical Initiates Clinical Trial for Butterfly Glioblastoma Treatment
Alpheus Medical, a private clinical-stage biotechnology company, has commenced a new clinical trial for its investigational Porphyrin Metabolite Activation (PoMA™) therapy. This trial targets patients diagnosed with butterfly glioblastoma (GBM), an aggressive form of brain cancer that spreads across both cerebral hemispheres. The study, identified as NCT07862647, will evaluate the PoMA therapy, which combines 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) with bilateral low-intensity defocused ultrasound. Patients enrolled in the trial will receive PoMA therapy prior to undergoing standard chemoradiation treatment. Historically, patients with butterfly glioblastoma have been excluded from many clinical trials due to the tumor's bilateral nature, leaving them with limited treatment options.
