Nonprofit Current AI Develops Open AI Infrastructure for Global Accessibility
Current AI, a nonprofit organization, is working to create an open, public AI infrastructure that is accessible to all, regardless of language or internet access. The organization, founded in February 2025, has partnered with Bhashini, the Indian government's AI language division, to develop Suno Sutra, a device that operates AI in 22 Indian languages offline. This initiative aims to address the lack of representation for numerous languages and dialects in current AI systems. Current AI has received significant funding from various sources, including the French government and major foundations, totaling $400 million. The nonprofit's efforts include launching an open-source AI chatbot and providing grants to projects that focus on preserving cultural heritage and improving AI accessibility in underrepresented regions.
