Kentucky Muralist Wylie Caudill Transforms Louisville Sport Court with Rose Art
Kentucky muralist Wylie Caudill has completed one of his largest projects to date, transforming a 7,200-square-foot futsal court in Clifton Park, Louisville, with a bed of hand-painted blue and red roses. Caudill, known for his rose artwork across Kentucky and his contributions to the 150th Kentucky Derby art, spent nearly a month on the ambitious endeavor. The project was initiated by Studio Worldwide, an organization that brings futsal to cities globally and collaborates with artists to beautify courts. Caudill utilized a specialized acrylic paint called Street Bond, designed for pedestrian traffic, which contains sand to ensure durability and a texture similar to asphalt. The artist faced challenges including extreme August temperatures, which necessitated painting at night when the court surface was below 110 degrees Fahrenheit, and the need to mix the paint himself, with a limited 24-hour window to use each batch.
