This model, known for its impressive performance, was one of the fastest production cars in the United States during its time. The engine, officially rated at 355 bhp by Ford, was widely believed to produce over 400 bhp. The GT500 was introduced as a more powerful companion to the GT350, designed for straight-line speed rather than circuit racing. The 1967 model year saw 2,048 GT500s produced, all fastbacks, with this particular car being one of them. It features a 4-speed manual transmission, enhancing its appeal among collectors.
