Arizona Identified as State with Highest Food Waste in the U.S.
Arizona has been identified as the state with the highest food waste in the United States, according to a study by the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. The study, which used data from various sources including the University of California Davis, found that each person in Arizona wastes approximately 1,025 pounds of food annually. This figure is nearly three times the national average. The study focused on retail and consumer waste, highlighting the significant amount of food discarded in stores and homes. However, it did not account for food losses earlier in the supply chain. The study also noted that different state-level reporting methods and the impact of tourism might contribute to the high waste figures.
