International Study Reveals Impact of PM2.5 on Assisted Reproductive Technology Success Rates
An international study has found a significant correlation between exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and reduced success rates in assisted reproductive technology (ART). Conducted by the Taiwan IVF Group and Ton Yen General Hospital in collaboration with Stanford University, the research was presented at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) 2026 meeting in London. The study analyzed ART registry data from 2010 to 2022 across Europe, North America, and East Asia, integrating environmental data from the World Health Organization, the European Environment Agency, and NASA. The findings indicate that regions with higher PM2.5 levels experienced a 5-12% reduction in clinical pregnancy rates and a 4-10% decline in live-birth rates. The research highlights the potential impact of air pollution on reproductive health and the role of artificial intelligence in analyzing large datasets to uncover these patterns.
