Kansas City Voters Approve $1.7 Billion in Bonds for Infrastructure and Housing Projects
Kansas City, Missouri, voters have approved five ballot measures, resulting in the authorization of $1.7 billion in bonds for various city projects. These measures include a $100 million bond for affordable housing, which will contribute to the city's Housing Trust Fund that has already facilitated the creation of approximately 3,000 affordable housing units since 2018. Additionally, a $100 million bond will be used to refurbish city-owned buildings such as City Hall and the Municipal Auditorium. The approval of a renewed 1/8th-cent sales tax will continue funding for the Central City Economic Development, which has supported 58 projects since 2017. Furthermore, two $750 million bonds will finance water and sewer infrastructure improvements, preventing potential increases in water bills. Mayor Quinton Lucas highlighted the success of these measures as a significant achievement for the city, emphasizing the administration's ongoing efforts to reduce crime, build housing, and create jobs.
