Atlanta Airport Retains Title as World's Busiest Amid Global Air Traffic Growth
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has maintained its position as the world's busiest airport for passenger traffic in 2025, with 106.3 million passengers, despite a 1.6% decline from 2024. This marks the 27th time in 28 years that Atlanta has held this title, only losing it once in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Airports Council International (ACI) reported a global passenger increase to 9.8 billion in 2025, a 3.6% rise from 2024 and a 7.3% increase from pre-pandemic levels in 2019. The rankings also saw Dubai International Airport and Tokyo's Haneda Airport securing the second and third spots, respectively. The report highlights the impact of geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties on air travel, with potential disruptions in fuel supply and increased fares due to ongoing conflicts, particularly in the Middle East.
