Taylor Farms Recalls Lettuce in 27 States Due to Cyclospora Risk
Taylor Farms has issued a voluntary recall of its iceberg lettuce products due to potential contamination with the cyclospora parasite. The recall affects products shipped to 27 states, including Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania. The contamination is linked to lettuce sourced from central Mexico, which has been identified as a source of cyclospora in food served at Taco Bell restaurants in five Midwestern states. The recall includes 25 shredded lettuce and salad mix products under eight brand codes, with 'best by' dates as late as August 3. Sysco, a major food distributor, has halted distribution of the affected products and instructed customers to destroy them. Cyclospora is a parasite that causes intestinal illness, and the CDC reports over 1,645 cases in the U.S. this year.
